🌴 Wine Spot Wednesday: L’Olive Mediterranean in Venice, FL

Last week, we had plans to watch a friend make her ballroom dance debut at a local studio. Since we wanted to grab a bite to eat before meeting up with our friends, we knew it was the perfect excuse to finally drop back into L’Olive Mediterranean for an early dinner.

While we first visited shortly after they opened several years ago—and it’s a frequent delivery go-to for me when my Partner in Wine is traveling—this neighborhood bistro hasn’t always been at the top of our minds for a night out. But after this recent visit? It is officially back in our regular rotation. From the warm coastal atmosphere to an unexpectedly compelling wine list, here is why this neighborhood spot deserves a place on your radar.

Quick Facts

  • Location: Venice, FL (Conveniently tucked away at the corner of Jacaranda and Center Road)
  • Details: Website
  • The Vibe:  An intimate, relaxed neighborhood bistro. It’s comforting yet refined, quaint yet sophisticated. It perfectly captures that “Very Venice” energy where it’s casual but upscale at the same time – one of the many things we love about Venice!
  • Food: A beautifully edited menu leaning heavily into fresh, flavorful Mediterranean classics
  • Specialty: You absolutely cannot skip the hummus, especially when paired with a crisp glass of white wine

Why Visit

  • A Distinct Culinary Alternative: The menu offers an authentic Mediterranean alternative to the area’s standard coastal fare, blending vibrant Greek and Lebanese influences with a beautifully curated wine program.
  • A Win for the Jacaranda Corridor: Located away from the bustling island downtown, it provides a sophisticated, easy-to-access dining option with plenty of hassle-free parking.
  • Meze-Style Flexibility: The menu features an array of shareable plates and small bites. It is incredibly accommodating whether you are stopping in for a light lunch, a mid-afternoon glass of wine, or a multi-course dinner.

🏝️ Our Venice Wine Spot Wednesday Experience at L’Olive Mediterranean

We arrived for an early dinner, but the secret is clearly out; the bar was already full and several tables were happily settled in. While we typically gravitate toward spaces drenched in our Florida natural light, L’Olive keeps its interior delightfully dim and cozy, creating an instantly intimate, upscale atmosphere that feels worlds away from a standard beach bar.

The service was genuinely warm and attentive, but it was the wine list that truly stole the show. For a boutique neighborhood spot, the selection is remarkably diverse, beautifully curated, and features incredibly approachable price points.

I opted for the Nicolas Sauvignon Blanc from France. It was beautifully light, clean, and refreshing—bursting with crisp citrus and bright acidity that cut perfectly through the warm Florida evening. I paired it with their spectacular Greek salad, adding crisp falafel to balance the wine’s vibrant profile.

My Partner in Wine spotted a unique Pillitteri Estates Riesling-GewĂĽrztraminer blend from Ontario, Canada. While he rarely reaches for a glass of white, this aromatic, structured find was a total home run. He paired it with the decadent lobster ravioli in a rich tomato cream sauce. His official verdict? “If it’s on the menu when you visit, order it!” Finding a Canadian gem on a local Southwest Florida wine list was such a fun, unexpected option.

🍷 Our Final Pour Wrap Up

L’Olive reminded us exactly why we love exploring the area’s culinary scene. With its neighborly charm, great service, and a wine list that has interesting selections at a good value, it’s a local spot we won’t be forgetting about anytime soon.
