There are some places that just get it right every single time, and Michael’s on East is one of those spots for us. Whenever we go, you’ll find us exactly where we love to be—at the bar. It’s lively, friendly, welcoming, and hands down one of the best seats in the house. We love the more casual vibe and always love a chance to chat with the bartenders and other guests. 

Adding to the vibe at Michael’s is the piano player, who is always absolutely spot on.  The music sets the tone without overpowering conversation, and it somehow makes the whole evening feel a little extra special. And his gal is always sitting at the bar while he plays, which I just love. 

Now let’s talk about what really matters here at Venice Wine Experiences—the wine list. Michael’s has one of our favorites in the entire area. With wines from all over the world and price points that truly offer something for everyone, it’s a list we always enjoy exploring.

Last night, we landed on a 2016 Montevideo Linda Flor Malbec, and at $95, it felt like a fantastic find. Rich, expressive, and incredibly food-friendly—we’d absolutely order this bottle again without hesitation. It was complex, smooth, and ever so slightly minerally. And it’s a nod to one of our upcoming wine experiences, so stay tuned to hear more about that!

Food-wise, we stayed true to form. The Head Wino went with his forever favorite: the pork chop, which remains his top meal choice every single time. I started with the corn croquettes for us to share. They were delicious, but those tiny microgreens on the top really made the dish. For my entrée, I chose Phil’s chopped salad, and it hit the spot perfectly.

Between the atmosphere, the food, the wine, and the always top-notch service, it was the kind of evening that reminds you why certain restaurants become go-to favorites…even when they’re slightly beyond our beloved Venice.

If you haven’t been to Michael’s on East yet, we definitely encourage you to go. And don’t miss out—stop by the wine shop before dinner. Trust us, it’s part of the experience.
