If you’ve been following along with us for a while, you already know our philosophy: wine should be fun, not stuffy. 🐦 Enter the Chirpy Top
We first spotted this little guy during a trip to Napa last year. We were wandering through downtown Calistoga and ducked (🦆) into Picayune Cellars and Mercantile. It is a shop that totally gets that blend of high-end quality and laid-back fun while pouring some great wines from their own winery. As our host, Gera (you have to go see him if you’re in Calistoga!), started pouring, we heard this hilarious, cheerful chirp-chirp-chirp coming from the bottle. (Sound up to hear Chirpy in action!)
It’s the cutest little bird aerator that fits right into the bottle. Does it help the wine breathe? Sure. But honestly? We love it because it’s just plain fun. It’s impossible to pour a glass and not smile when you hear that little songbird start up.
Let’s geek out a bit about the process of aeration. The Chirpy Top’s ‘chirp’ isn’t just for show—it’s actually the sound of the wine breathing. The Chirpy Top is made with dual stainless steel tubes that create a specific airflow pattern. As wine flows out, air is pulled in, creating that signature sound and aerating the wine simultaneously. It softens the tannins and opens up the bouquet of your favorite red before it even hits the glass. The Chirpy Top isn’t going to replace a full decant, but it is absolutely perfect for the casual wines we drink here in Venice most days.
🐧 Our Chirpy Top Experience
Since that trip, we’ve given the Chirpy Top as gifts to pretty much everyone we know. Chirpy is perfect as a stocking stuffer and make an amazing hostess gift along with a great bottle of wine. The reaction is always the same when we gift one – initial confusion and then total enchantment. We recommend purchasing several to have on hand for gifts…and of course you’ll need one for yourselves!
