Sip Savvy Guide: the Vina Wine Glass Cleaner

A Sip Savvy guide to the gear, glassware, and gadgets that have earned a permanent spot in our home. Because being wine savvy isn’t just about choosing great bottles—it’s also about the tools that make every glass more enjoyable.

If you’re like us, there are times when a small school of wine glasses slowly claims residency on your kitchen counter. A few years ago, we upgraded our stemware. And while it is absolutely beautiful—and we love nothing more than sipping from a delicate, thin-stemmed glass—it also means the dishwasher is officially off-limits.

So, the glasses sit patiently on the counter, awaiting our attention. Or at least, they used to.

We recently purchased the Vina Wine Glass Cleaner & Polisher, and those sad, lonely glasses on the counter are officially a thing of the past!

The Spark of an Obsession

Years ago, back at the old Casey Key Wine Bar, we watched Dave polish stemware with the most amazing tool: a professional-level, multi-brush wine glass polishing machine that left them dried and shining within seconds. No more fear of snapping a delicate stem by shoving a dish towel into the bowl. No streaks, no smudges. Just easy, gleaming perfection. And he even looked like he enjoyed doing it!

Thus began our multi-year infatuation with this machine that could dry and shine our glasses at home. (Yes. We understand this may be a bit weird…)

For the next few years, I considered buying one for my Partner in Wine everytime a holiday or birthday approached. But the commercial ones were pricey—severely limiting the amount of actual wine we could purchase if I blew the budget on a wine glass polisher. Plus, they were somewhat large and extremely ugly. I didn’t want a bulky appliance permanently hogging our counter space and impacting the aesthetics of our recently remodeled kitchen.

So, we kept washing and drying by hand. And we kept letting a few glasses collect over a couple of days. (Don’t pretend like you don’t secretly hate hand-washing dishes, too!)

Enter the Vina Wine Glass Cleaner

When my Partner in Wine’s birthday rolled around recently, I started the hunt again thinking this would be the year we’d do it, and I would just hide it in a closet. But then I stumbled upon the Vina.

With its compact, single-glass size and a price point right around $90, it felt like the perfect solution for a home kitchen. I immediately hit the order button. It arrived quickly and was stashed away for the big day. It was a total hit—he had never seen this single-glass, at-home version before either, so the surprise factor was perfect.

Unfortunately, when he went to charge it up, we hit a snag. The charging base couldn’t quite make contact with the tool, leaving us quite literally dead in the water.

A Customer Service Win

Here is where a customer service story could have gone very wrong. But—spoiler alert—it didn’t.

My Partner in Wine reached out via email just to ask for some troubleshooting guidance. He emailed them from his account, but the purchase had been made under my email.

Instead of giving us a lengthy runaround or asking fifty questions, the team at Vina connected the dots internally and immediately shipped us a brand-new base. No hassle. Done. We were both floored and incredibly impressed.

Putting the Vina to the Test

The new base arrived quickly, worked like a charm, and the other night, we finally gave the tool its first real test run.

The Verdict: It’s an absolute keeper.

The unit comes with a rechargeable base and four soft heads to take you from washing to drying to polishing. We tested the washing and polishing heads first (we felt the drying head was a little large for the specific white wine glass we were using, but it’ll be perfect for bolder, wide-bowl reds).

The Vina Wine Glass Cleaner in action!

The result? No more water spots, no fear of breakage, and no more lonely glasses awaiting their handwashing. While we’ve only used the Vina a handful of times so far, it does exactly what it promises to do, and we love that. This is the kind of wine tool we love. Easy, convenient, and helps uplevel our wine experience! We can sip a nice Sancerre on the lanai and not worry about the glasses littering the counter afterward! And it actually IS kind of fun, so we understand why Dave appeared to enjoy it all those years ago. It’s oddly satisfying to go from dirty to perfectly polished in a few minutes.

A quick tip: Give yourself a little time to get comfortable with the Vina before using it on your most delicate stemware. Like any new tool, there’s a small learning curve when cleaning and polishing the outside of the glass. My Partner in Wine found it easiest to hold the glass upside down by the base, and we’d recommend practicing with a sturdier everyday wine glass before graduating to your favorite Riedels or other beloved stemware.

The Vina Wine Glass Cleaner & Polisher is how we get a perfectly polished glass - ready for our next pour!

So if you’re looking for a way to banish the counter clutter and keep your stemware sparkling (and ready for your next favorite sip!) without the stress, we definitely recommend giving the Vina a look! Focus on shark’s teeth, beach time, and great wine – not fussily washing – and trying not to break – your glasses..

Salud, wine lovers! We’ll be back next week with another Sip Savvy tip to help you get even more out of every wine experience.
